What is Odd One Out?

Odd One Out is a game from the Google Arts & Culture Lab that tests whether you can tell AI art from the real thing. Each round shows four images on a theme like cats, cars or candles. Three are real objects or artworks from museum collections, and one was generated by Google AI. Pick the fake to move on.

It launched in May 2023 and was made by Caroline Buttet and Emmanuel Durgoni, artists in residence at the lab. You start with four lives and lose one for each wrong pick, while every correct answer shortens the time you get for the next round. Artnet News, Hypebeast and Android Police all covered it, and it is a good quick test of how sharp your eye for AI images really is.
