What is Zoomquilt?

Zoomquilt is a single painting that never ends. As soon as it loads it starts zooming in, and every scene hides the next one inside it: a window becomes a landscape, a landscape becomes a strange room, and on it goes in a loop that feels endless. You can sit back and watch, or use the up and down arrow keys to speed up, slow down or zoom back out.

It was created in 2004 as a project by Nikolaus Baumgarten, with 14 illustrators each painting a section that blends into the next. It is one of the original weird internet classics and still turns up on most lists of strange and beautiful websites. Baumgarten later made follow-ups, including Zoomquilt 2, Arkadia, Infinite Flowers and Organic City, all linked from the page.
