What is Waifu Labs?
Waifu Labs is an AI anime portrait generator made by Sizigi Studios, a small team of MIT researchers and artists. It first appeared as a booth at Anime Expo 2019 and then spread fast on Twitter and Reddit as people shared the characters it made for them.
Rather than typing a prompt, you pick. The site shows a grid of portraits, you choose the one you like, and the next grid offers variations on it. In four steps you narrow in on colour palette, details and pose, and the model learns your taste as you go. The newest version also creates male characters, which the site calls husbandos, and backgrounds. Sizigi uses the same technology in its own game, Arrowmancer.
