What is This Word Does Not Exist?
This Word Does Not Exist looks like a dictionary entry, except the word is fake. Each load shows an invented word, its part of speech, a straight-faced definition and an example sentence, all written by an AI. Some are almost useful, some are nonsense, and the fun is in how confident they sound. You can also type a word of your own and have the AI write a definition for it.
It was built by Thomas Dimson, a former engineering director at Instagram, and released on May 13, 2020. He fine-tuned OpenAI's GPT-2 using dictionary data, after first building a tool to name companies. It went viral during the early pandemic and was covered by Fast Company, Digital Trends and Nerdist. The code is open source on GitHub, and each word has a shareable link.
