What is Strobe Illusion?
Strobe Illusion is an optical illusion by Neave Interactive, the studio of Paul Neave. It plays a stroboscopic animation and asks you to stare at its centre for 30 seconds.
When you look away, the room, your hands or a face nearby appear to stretch, ripple and distort for a few seconds. It is a strong version of the motion aftereffect, where your eyes adapt to constant movement and briefly misread still things. The page then asks whether it worked and lets you go again.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Strobe Illusion free?
Yes. It is free to use in your browser with no account.
Is Strobe Illusion safe?
It uses flashing animation. Do not use it if you are sensitive to flashing lights or have photosensitive epilepsy.
Why does everything warp after Strobe Illusion?
Staring at constant motion tires the parts of your visual system that detect movement, so still things briefly seem to move. This is called the motion aftereffect.
