What is Knowt?
Knowt is a study app that turns notes, PDFs, slides and lecture videos into AI flashcards, practice tests and study guides. It is made by Knowt Inc. and is widely used as a Quizlet alternative, with its homepage reporting more than 8.6 million users and a library of over 5 million notes and flashcard sets. Knowt says at least 700,000 of the 1.3 million students who took AP exams in May 2025 used it.
Knowt's difference is that its core study modes stay free: you can create and import flashcards, including existing Quizlet sets, and use unlimited learn mode, matching games, spaced repetition and practice tests without paying. Ultra adds AI features such as summarising PDFs, videos and slides, an AI lecture recorder that turns a class into notes and quizzes, an AI podcast generator and a voice tutor that quizzes you aloud. It also includes full AP, SAT and ACT prep material. High school and college students use it for exam revision, and teachers use it to share sets with classes.
